Podcasting or Blogging: Which is Better for Authors?

Podcasting Or Blogging: Which Is Better For Authors?

Podcasting or blogging—which one should you do? Is it worth the effort for an author to invest in either one? Well, let me set the record straight. Both are great mediums of communication that offer different benefits and drawbacks.

Podcasting vs blogging: About podcasts

When it comes to podcasting, it can be more engaging and emotional than blogging. Podcasts allow you to express yourself more personally since they are usually more conversational. Podcasts often create a more intimate connection between the listener and speaker.

Podcasting is great for giving people the chance to listen instead of reading a blog post or article. All you need is a pair of headphones and an internet connection! Podcasts can be listened to while multitasking, which makes them more accessible and easier to digest than a lot of written content.

Podcasts have the potential to reach a larger audience of new fans since anyone with an internet connection can find episodes on common streaming platforms like Apple podcasts or Spotify. They boost engagement and help bring in consistent fans who subscribe.

However, podcasts can take longer to produce compared to writing blog posts or articles. It requires audio equipment and recording time that may only be available for some.

Podcasting vs blogging: About blogs

On the other hand, blogging is an efficient way of sharing information quickly via text-based format. Blogging allows writers to easily convey their ideas and thoughts accurately because of its linear structure. Also, blogs allow readers to easily skim through text-based content and quickly find what they need.

The blog format allows you to write detailed explanations of topics, which means you can use it as an educational tool or provide valuable information that might not fit into a podcast episode.

Blogging also offers more opportunities for SEO optimization and traffic generation than podcasts do. In a blog post, you can add backlinks and calls to action that quickly send your readers where you want them to go.

So, which is best for you?

Ultimately, the choice between podcasting or blogging comes down to what best suits your needs. Podcasts can be great for conversational topics, while blogs offer more opportunities to explain complex topics thoroughly. If you have the time, energy, and resources available, it can be beneficial to use both platforms to reach a wider audience.

No matter which platform you choose, make sure that you create engaging content that adds value for your listeners or readers. Podcasting and blogging each have their own advantages, so use them wisely and get the most out of your online communication efforts.

Personally…

I have a blog that has over 800 blog posts with travel that ranges from 10,000-15,000 visitors monthly. As it has grown over the last decade, it turned into a great generator of interview opportunities.

So has it been worthwhile? Yes, but for me, creating podcasts is even more worthwhile in today’s rich audio/video production world.

To this end, stay tuned for the start of my next podcast: Awake in the Network: Where Destiny Happens! It’s been a long time brewing, but I just had to create a show where I get to network in real time.
