Do You Have a Collaborative Mind When It Comes to Book Marketing?

I’m in my thirteenth year as a book creation coach, and I’ve spent the last two and a half years leading a community of thought-leader authors who embrace a daily “collaboration mindset.” I’ve seen first-hand how having a spirit of networking with this type of mindset can not only lead to better partnering but also to better outcomes for all involved.
Take, for example, my good friend and colleague, Mark Schaefer. Just a week or so ago, Mark wrote a great post about the differences and similarities between Influencers and Super Sharers who are wizards at Word-of-Mouth Marketing. Here is a snippet of what Mark shared about these two groups of marketers:
“As I wrote in a recent post, my take on influencer/word of mouth differs from most. I think the goal for both tactics is simple: move your content. The economic value of content that is not seen and shared is zero, so it makes sense to find people who can spread content for us.”—Mark Schaefer (Blog).
Mark goes on to reference the differences between Word-of-Mouth Marketing and what he terms: “super-sharers.” He adds that, unlike influencers, the super-sharer’s results are hard to track. Still, these sharers do what they do because they are passionate about sharing “authentic, relevant, and interesting content.” I love this shout-out to people who love to share. Why? Because I’m one of them. Mark is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He has also become a friend and colleague I’ve been about to help. To a happy outcome, I connected him to my foreign rights agents, who were excited to be introduced to such a force in the marketing world. As a result, his books now have an even greater reach than before.
But What About the Roadblock: Lack of Repetition?
Mark makes a point near the end of this blog post about the problem with the lack of repetition with either of the methods for sharing content: the lack of enough repetition to create successful intended outcomes. To this end, Mark sees that influencer marketing and being a super sharer are “connected at the hip” and that ways will be created to help spread great content because it’s FUN. I use FUN here as an acronym for “Finally Ultimate Networking.” I believe there are those of us who love to connect with others and share ideas that improve people, communities, and beyond. Mark has that passion, and so do I. That’s why I created Networlding as a book I co-authored with Motorola’s first Chief Marketing Officer, Jocelyn Carter Miller. After the book came out, I used the book and its guidebooks to help leaders in companies build “mutually beneficial relationships to create transformational opportunities.
I was so grateful that organizations like Motorola, Accenture, Office Depot, and American Express greatly benefited from using a methodology that expanded their leaders’ ability to build solid, values-based networks. However, I was also able to help become more adept at creating the characteristics of what Mark describes as the super sharer. For me, this looked like forming a wonderful partnership with The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, which, at the time, I started Networlding boot camps, taking over 1000 people through the process. It was a year to remember, a year of connection and joy. I only wish I could have continued those boot camps. They would have come in very handy during Covid.
So take a moment. Read Mark’s blog, sign up for his newsletter, absorb his wisdom, and watch your world of connection take off!
