Leveraging the Power of Networks for Book Authors

Leveraging The Power Of Networks For Book Authors

If you are an author what you quickly learn, especially if you spend thousands of dollars joining expensive training programs on publishing, is that it is ALL ABOUT YOUR NETWORK. I remember reading a story about one of the top social media influencers — I’ll call him John, who went to a $15,000+ program to learn the insider secrets of getting to the top of their game. It turned out he found that spending time with the up-and-comers in the program was the real secret to success. In this case, this social-media expert found himself next to someone who was just ready to go to the next level of influence and, upon meeting John decided he would be a good partner to take on. Today, the two of these folks are superstars. How? By helping EACH OTHER realize success through partnering and leveraging the power in blending their respective networks.

In fact, these two, together, had hundreds of interconnecting circles of people. As they led these circles with their thought leadership, they grew their around the country and, eventually, around the world. And their circles of support will continue to grow as they add value through consistent, thoughtful leadership. There is no information hoarding, no siege mentality, no blind watchmaker authority.

Start small to grow big.

As an author, you can start small to grow big. How?  Recognize that the real adage in marketing books today is “He or she who shares the fastest, the best, and the most often, with discernment wins!” This strategy is based on fundamental behaviors like:

  • Learn continuously
  • Endorse experimentation
  • Break old patterns
  • Build strong, exchanging “circles” of support
  • Leverage your assets (behaviors, skills, relationships)

Explore connections throughout your network.

The trick here is to look for the natural interconnectedness of people from all walks of life. And the reality is (and I’ve witnessed it first-hand, again and again), the unique and often wonderful connections people have at any rung on the ladder of success. By connecting in an upbeat, positive way you create fertile soil for ongoing conversations that lead to unique opportunities — even transformational opportunities.

Think about that. To transform means to change. Something cannot change beyond itself. Its possibilities for change exist only within the limits of its inherent nature. What I see most often in business today is that most business professionals put limits on the people they think they can reach. The truth is we are now only three degrees people or fewer away from anyone you want to meet. It’s really just a matter of making up your list, finding the right partners, and believing “anything is possible” which is the number one belief of those people who do build ongoing support in their networks. Continuous outreach and connection help you and your networking partners create transformational opportunities for a lifetime.

Is it time for you to reach out? Are you ready? If not now, when?
