Grow Your Inspiration To Write Your Book

How do you acquire more inspiration to write your book? The best thing I have found is to take the time to look at other books that are out on the market that are similar to the type of book you want to write. Take advantage of the “Look Inside” feature on Amazon and build out a spreadsheet with tabs like “Rank of the Book,” “Number of Chapters,” “Titles of Chapter,” “Patterned Highlights of Good Reviews” and “Patterned Highlights of Bad Review.”

Just spend time getting this information logged into your spreadsheet. Next, let the spreadsheet alone for three to four days. After this time is up go back and look at the spreadsheet. What do you see now? You should see even more patterns. You should see that most people have written similar things about the same topic. But ask yourself, what is not there? What do you see is needed but has yet to be discussed?

The world of book publishing is its own hairy beast. To tame that beast, to get to the top of the hill where you can see more clearly what the masses would appreciate and, even better, benefit from, you need to go through the authoring process. Start with the belief, however, that you belong. Your work will matter. It will make a difference out there.

This is where I start with every author I coach and we get “there”–you know, that place everyone wishes they can get to–that place where what they have to say is heard and respected. It’s a journey. If you find yourself wondering if you can make it, go find help. There are book coaches out there who can help be that support you need to move from where you are now to the solid book authoring finish line. Don’t give up. You are closer than you think.
