Best Social Media Tools To Build Connections

I sent out a query the last week to learn what social media tools have proven to be most successful in helping people build

their connections.  I collected responses to share them with you so that we could re-evaluate our social media strategies.  The new year is approaching quickly, and a goal of mine is to continue strengthening my connections and embrace new tools I have not tried or fully utilized.  I hope by reading these recommendations from leading business professionals will inspire you to do the same!

Definitely LinkedIn for professional connections. This year, have connected with many new people in South America, Europe, and the US through my work and travels and was able to add most of them to my LinkedIn connections so we can continue to stay in contact easily regardless of where we are living or working. People who I worked with on a project in Sao Paulo, Brazil in April are still connecting with me in November because they can easily find me on LinkedIn and access my professional profile – and they see other people they trust connecting with me. Announcing on LinkedIn that I was working on a high-profile project for a well-known and respected Brazilian organization spurred several recruiters and colleagues to approach me to find out more about the project and my status. Have also been approached to make introductions, provide information, advice, etc., throughout the year, and have followed through, building a deeper connection to both parties and allowing me to remain fresh in their online “Rolodex” of contacts – and vice versa.

Linked In, definitely. I’ve been able to help others find a job or a new occupation; I’ve been offered valuable collaboration from others in discussing questions I had put there; most of my blog readers come from Linked In.
