What You Should Really Try In Social Media

YouTube recently rolled out a contest on Wednesday looking for the next 16 celebrity vloggers – which actually was asked for by YouTube’s fans. That’s right – video/video blogging (vlogging) is not just a new tool – it’s a way of social media.

Last week, a new episode of one of the hottest shows, Touch, with Keifer Sutherland, star of the hit series 24, had social media integrated worldwide. A Japanese girl was using her phone to translate her voice into English.  A dance-off worldwide was happening via webcam. The Japanese girl forgot her phone at the bar and another girl picked it up, looked through it only to find it full of random videos.

She has a revelation after laughing at one of the videos: “I think those videos are meant to be a pay-it-forward.”

Videos are the next step in humanizing social media – a common guideline for succeeding in social media- to be transparent, genuine, honest, and have a personality so people know there is actually a person behind it all. But videos take it to the next level.  Take a minute, maybe two in front of the camera.  Inspire, inform, empower and excite! Let your customers get to know you.

Here are a couple of apps to get you started (next to your webcam that is!):

Rawporter, a rapidly rising video tool, encourages you to capture raw content and report it. (@Rawporter)

Viddy, simple way to capture, produce and share stunning videos! (@Viddy)

Thoughts? Will you get in front of the camera?

Thanks so much to Anne Reuss, part of the Networlding Social Media Team for her insights on this blog! Check out Anne’s blog to see more. And note, one of my goals for next year is to create a Kickstarter campaign to create a documentary on Anne called “Living Loudly in a Silent World.” Can’t wait to start that! Email me about it a melissa @ networlding.com if you want to learn more.
