Step 5: Evaluate your Twitter Presence

Step 5: Evaluate Your Twitter Presence

I praise Twitter quite often, shaking my head at the fact I joined so late. Let me tell you a secret:  I didn’t even have my own Twitter account until AFTER I worked for Melissa in social media. I know, I know….You can lower your eyebrows now. My a-ha moment was when I took a break from work to exercise, but I was distracted because I was envisioning what more 140 character tweets I could tweet. I knew I had to get my own.

I was no longer addicted to Stumbleupon. And I discovered the best thing about Twitter.

The humanity of it.

As a Deaf person, I have no barriers on the web.  Social Media levels the playing field.

The ball is in your court if you’re willing to actively participate. No awkwardness. Deaf, introvert or extrovert, differently-abled, a minority, middle-class…it doesn’t matter. We truly want to meet people & exchange interesting content. I insist you start thinking about your Twitter presence if you haven’t already, whether if you’re on Twitter or not.  Especially for new entrepreneurs:  you have to position yourself as a confident & dynamic professional who knows what you have to offer.

Some questions to get you started:
-Do you have a bio? Try to avoid long, laundry lists: Include short & powerful phrases too.
– A picture of yourself?  Oh, a must! See Step 4: Put a Face behind Social Media
-Do you know the type of people you want to follow?
-What is your goal on Twitter? There’s no right or wrong answer.
-Have you found tweetchats to participate in that align with your goals & interests? (contact me at areuss11@gmail.com for the tweet chat schedule).
-Finally, pick several Tweeps you look up to and look at how they present themselves.
