Step 1: Keep Expanding Network – Meet Willie Jackson

Afternoon! I am now attempting to squeeze a blog post on my phone screen. Goodness. Maybe step 54 will let me get an iPad..is that too late? I am on the train now to the city, where I have lunch plans with Nate the consultant friend I mentioned in my latest post. I sure can’t wait to hear his thoughts on me setting up a biz. After my lunch, I am meeting *claps hands* Wille Jackson.

This character is someone I’m just tickled to meet. If you go to his blog you’ll see why.  He’s a witty, sarcastic and brilliant man who excels at making an impression with his online presence. We’ve spoke a bit and  I can only imagine what it will be like in person.  He hails from New York City, where he works in his lab turning WordPresses in masterpieces and has worked with world renowned marketer Seth Godin.  He hasn’t had a “real job since 2010” when he left Accenture after working there for three years.  It was his first college job, and I thought I wanted the same thing.  I even applied for a job at Accenture.  I thought: I could finally learn some IT, get to travel and meet all sorts of clients: the exact thing Willie thought.  Willie wasn’t satisfied after three years (see more on why here) and I suspect it wasn’t the easiest thing to do, and he took charge of his own life.  Just like what I’m trying to do.  Instead of  trying to make the job fit you like squeezing in those almost perfect sized shoes, you create the job you want.  I’m sure some of you have heard this before – and I have – but I didn’t quite think I could have this luxury out of college.  But with the right energy and attitude (and you better be able to network. Heck, explore this very site and follow Melissa at @Networlding and you’ll immediately become better) surely you can. Have you heard of  LOA? NO, not Letter of Agreement. Law of Attraction.  Laugh, but you’re intrigued I know. Basically it means: instead of trying and hoping, you just know it.

Melissa is going by the Networlding way and introducing me to Willie in 3 hours. If I play this right, he may very well offer me more valuable advice and help me figure out some of my steps to success.  The reason I’m guest blogging here is because I’ve constantly searched for ways to network and ask questions knowing someone just had to see I was capable of functioning in the real world – and that eventually led to Melissa – and I haven’t stopped. Lo & behold, here comes along an opportunity to meet Willie! This man also has a thing for Haribo Gummi Bears – I wonder how deep it goes? Perhaps I’ll pick up some at the train station 🙂
