Networlding Step Number 6

Co-Create Opportunities

Your Primary Circle Partners are those individuals who are there for you as much as you for them. This step is especially relevant for business owners who want to co-present at events or co-create through alliances and other partnering venues.

Through the years I have had the great honor of having partnerships that included:

  • Partner Co-Authors: e.g. John Conlon whom I met at Accenture who was the head of internal alliances. As a result, I invited John to co-author a book with me published by Jossey Bass that specializes in leadership books. Our book, The Power of Two, was a wonderful door opener into training and coaching for organizations that included Motorola, Office Depot, American Express, Accenture, and more. It also was the door opener for many speaking engagements.
  • Partner Coaches and Trainers: I remember the first time I visited American National Bank where I pitched them the idea of training their commercial lenders on the strategies and tactics of networking. I partnered with a wonderful trainer named Graham Wilson who co-trained with me over the course of five years. By co-creating that training opportunity with Graham, I felt our training was more comprehensive as Graham was better able to talk about the nuances of networking as a man and I could talk about the unique tactics and strategies to network as a woman.
  • Partners in the business. Today I have the great honor of partnering with top design experts, Nancye Green and Julie Anixter of the company, un/teaching. With great projects like working with Heidrick and Struggles to bring out a wonderful new book on corporate culture to the wonderful honor of getting publish Tom Peters last book in his best-selling series, In Search of Excellence, we are showing the world what agile publishing in the digital age looks like.
  • Partners in Mentoring. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love mentoring the next generations on what I see as the new world of publishing. Diversity and inclusion efforts are making their way successfully into this new world where voices that were not heard or not heard very well before, are now getting heard. I’m very grateful to help young and new adults focused on the art of writing and publishing, especially those in at-risk communities, get their voices heard and appreciated.
