Interview With Author Mel McSherry

I had the opportunity to sit down with Mel McSherry, a wonderful thought leader and quite a kick to work with!

Mel is an International Business Development Coach and Speaker. She predominantly works with women business owners who are exhausted and overwhelmed by what they think they need to do in order to be successful. She helps them slash their stress by showing them how to prioritize their profits, their time, and themselves correctly so they can create the money, the business, and the life they want, fast!

As an entrepreneur since 2010, Mel has launched two successful businesses, doubled her monthly income, and created a true life by design, all while raising a seven-year-old son. She has worked with hundreds of people helping them get crystal clear on what they want and prioritizing the time that they have so they can create the success they desire, as well as the free time to enjoy it.

Following are my ten questions with two bonus questions I asked Mel to help give you insight as to what a new author’s experience is like.

1. What inspired you to write your book?

I saw the effect of my talk on people, and their businesses, around the world and I wanted to create a valuable resource that would continue to spread my message and create change.

2. What was the biggest surprise you didn’t expect when writing your book?

The emotions that surfaced and the past hurts that I still needed to heal and strengthen. When you start to share more in-depth about your story, it can be a pretty scary situation- you fear the outcome or what people may think. It also helped me give myself credit for still creating what I have throughout these experiences.

3. What was your work schedule like when you were writing your book?

I blocked out 4 hours, one day a week, got a sitter to pick my son up from school, and went to a space that allowed me to be fully enveloped in it. I also met with a book coach once a week for almost 6 weeks to bounce off ideas and solidify the content.

4. What does your title mean? ‘

She Profits’ means womxn can be profitable- mentally, emotionally, and financially as they are creating the business, money, and life they want- not after they have already achieved it.

5. What did you dislike most about writing your book?

I would say the hardest part was trusting my words and my stories as well as the confidence to know that they needed to be shared and I know what I am talking about.

6. What did you love most about it?

The creative time I established for myself (which has now bled into other aspects of my business) as well as the open, supportive collaboration I had with my coach.

7. If you could magically write your next book right now what would it be?

It would be a deeper dive into that personal exploration of what you want and how you work, the struggle that comes with establishing and maintaining your true self as a womxn entrepreneur, and the support you need to keep working on yourself as you are also working on your business/sharing yourself on social media/etc.

8. What are you most passionate about achieving right now with regards to the success of your book?

To help 1 million womxn be profitable mentally, emotionally, and financially as they create the business, money, and life they want in the time that they have.

9. How has writing your book made you smarter with regards to the subject of your book?

That’s a great question! The overwhelming feedback and stories that have been shared with me by the readers have definitely given me the validation that I have a purpose here and that I can be of true support with the knowledge I have.

10. What advice would you give to an author writing their first book?

Know your intention with it. Spend some time really picturing, as much as you can, what you want this to create not only for yourself but for the ones that are reading it. This will help you create the HOW and the type of support you need to bring it to life.

Bonus #1  At the end of the day, was the journey of writing your book worth it?

Hell yes!

Bonus #2  What’s the best question you have ever been asked?

The best question, and hardest to learn how to answer, is “What do you want?”
